Introduction

Mary Courtney (Morning Star): Gra
Mary Courtney's first solo recording, Sceil Eile (Another Story), was released in December 2003 on her own label, Completely Stone Mad Music. She composed the music for the first track, Is Mise Eira. This recording is coprised of 12 songs covering a range of subjects that are near and dear to her heart. She sings, and plays guitar and bodhran, just as she would in a solo setting. She wants the listener to hear the true sound and let it "stand alone". This approach has resulted in the album's runaway success.

Biography

Mary Courtney is a native of County Kerry, Ireland. She arrived in New York in the early eighties. already an established and accompliashed performaner at home and in Europe, she soon founded the traditional band "Morning Star" - the only all female group in the Northeast at that time.

Over the years, Mary has lead the band in the Tri-State area and in National and International Festibal circuits, and continues to have a wonderful rapport and reception with the audiences attending these events. She has recorded several CDs with the band, including Making Waves, These Better Days, Gra, and Away Ye Go Now.

Mary's solo performances are legendary. Her beautiful voice, and engaging nature make it a pleaseure to listen to her.

Mary recently composed the music and co-wrote a song called Twisted, which is featured in a movie entitle We Drink the Same Poison, which made its debut at the 2004 New York International Film Festival.

Mary has performed with the well known New York-base dCeltic Rock group, Black 47. She recorded a duet (Living in America) with Larry Kirwin on their Fire of Freedom album, and again most recently on the album, New York Town, with the song, (Living in America Part 2) Eleven Years On.

Mary also has a guest appearance with Chris Byrne and his group, Seanchai, on their latest DC, Rebel Massive.
